Judge Dredd #10

That cover says everything and nothing all at once — Dredd's badge-emblazoned uniform and helmet remain instantly recognizable, but where his face should be, only a grinning skull stares back against a blood-splattered dark background, with the word "DEAD!" screaming in red above him. J. H. Williams III's pencils and Jimmy Palmiotti's inks deliver a genuinely unsettling image that makes this 1995 DC issue hard to put back on the shelf. Andrew Helfer and the art team's story, "Dredd End," promises exactly the kind of high-stakes tension that cover is boldly advertising.
