The tagline "For Those Who Are About to Die…" sets an appropriately arena-ready tone for this 2002 installment of DC's JSA. Rags Morales's cover places a black-costumed, lightning-bolt-emblazoned Black Adam at center stage, chains in hand, looming over a fallen red-and-blue armored figure on a checkerboard floor — while a commanding red-clad woman presides from an elevated throne and snarling mechanical wolf-like creatures flank the scene. Geoff Johns, Stephen Sadowski, and Keith Champagne bring "Fair Play" to life in what promises to be a brutal second chapter of gladiatorial conflict for the Justice Society.
