Written by Chris Claremont and brought to life with dynamic art by John Byrne, inked by Dan Green, and colored by Janice Cohen, this 1977 issue features a striking cover by Dave Cockrum and Al Milgrom.

By the time Iron Fist #14 was published with an August 1977 cover date, writer Chris Claremont and penciller John Byrne were approaching the end of a run that had been Byrne's primary proving ground at Marvel — the artist had been brought onto the title after Claremont championed him to then-Editor-in-Chief Len Wein, and the two would carry their partnership directly onto Uncanny X-Men beginning with issue #108. Archie Goodwin edited the issue, and the story — titled 'Snowfire!' — was inked by Dan Green, colored by Janice Cohen, and lettered by Annette Kawecki, with cover art by Al Milgrom and Dave Cockrum. A fan-cited account suggests Claremont had always intended Sabretooth as a Wolverine villain and used the Iron Fist title as a convenient launching pad, though Claremont's own recorded remarks on this point are ambiguous, and the character's mutant status went unstated in his early appearances. The issue also exists as a rare 35-cent price variant — part of Marvel's limited regional pricing experiment conducted between June and October 1977, distributed to only a small number of test markets.
