“The Sidekick Swap”

A crossover treat from June 2000, this issue teams Impulse with Stars and S.T.R.I.P.E. for a "Day of Judgment" follow-up, as promised right on the cover. Ethan Van Sciver and Wayne Faucher deliver a wonderfully dynamic image: the massive armored robot S.T.R.I.P.E. dominates the top of the cover, tumbling upside-down through billowing smoke alongside a free-falling girl, while Stargirl streaks upward from the street below in her patriotic costume — and a wide-eyed Impulse peers in from the side, looking equal parts startled and entertained. With Geoff Johns writing and the artistic team of Eric Battle and Rodney Ramos on interiors, "The Sidekick Swap" promises plenty of energetic fun when these very different young heroes share the spotlight.
