Gert — green-haired, dead-eyed, and utterly unimpressed — perches atop a chaotic pile of fantastical creatures, staff in hand, like a tiny queen who'd rather be anywhere else in the universe. Skottie Young and Jean-François Beaulieu pack the cover with a gloriously absurd menagerie of mushroom people, bug-eyed monsters, and squirming oddities bathed in a warm orange glow that makes the mayhem feel almost cheerful. Six issues in, I Hate Fairyland keeps delivering that perfect blend of candy-colored whimsy and barely contained exasperation.
