Green Lantern / Green Arrow #1
"Green Lantern / Green Arrow #1" (1983) kicks off a powerful collaboration between two iconic heroes, as Green Arrow introduces Green Lantern to the harsh realities of urban poverty through the plight of tenement dwellers exploited by slumlord Jubal Slade. Written by Denny O'Neil and illustrated with intense precision by Neal Adams—both on pencils and inks—this issue sets a socially conscious tone, exploring justice beyond the cosmic scale. The Guardians of the Universe intervene when Green Lantern takes matters into his own hands, but their response leads to a surprising decision: a representative will join the duo on a journey to uncover the deeper injustices across America. The cover by Neal Adams captures the tension and resolve of the moment, a striking visual that mirrors the story’s grounded urgency.

Green Arrow shows Green Lantern the plight of the people living in the tenements of slumlord Jubal Slade. But when the Guardians of the Universe observe GL roughing up Slade, they bring him to Oa and reprimand him. Against their orders GL returns to Earth and collects evidence to put Slade away. In response, the Guardians contact Green Lantern, but Green Arrow argues that there are serious problems across America that have escaped the attention of Green Lantern. The Guardians confer, and decide to send a representative to accompany the two heroes as they go on a journey of discovery.
