Green Lantern #31
This delightfully offbeat 1964 cover — penciled by Gil Kane and inked by Murphy Anderson — sets up a premise that's hard to resist: a grinning villain in an orange suit literally levitates with glee as he hawks Green Lantern power rings from a street-side display case for just one dollar apiece. Hal Jordan stands nearby, ring blazing green, looking none too pleased about this unauthorized sale, while a crowd of eager onlookers waves cash in the background. John Broome's story, brought to life by Kane and inker Sid Greene, promises the kind of inventive, anything-can-happen energy that made Silver Age DC such a joy.
