About this Collection

This second volume in DC's Showcase Presents series continues reprinting classic Silver Age Green Lantern stories from the early 1960s, originally featured in Green Lantern #9-17 and Showcase #22-24. The collection highlights Hal Jordan's early adventures as the Emerald Gladiator, with tales by writer John Broome and artist Gil Kane, including the introduction of villain Sinestro and the debut of the Star Sapphire. Presented in black-and-white on newsprint, this budget-friendly edition offers a deep dive into the foundational lore of the Green Lantern Corps.

In "The World of Perilous Traps!", Hal Jordan faces a deadly test of wits when Sinestro, freed by a hidden telepathic command, drags him to the treacherous planet Qward. Written by John Broome and illustrated by Gil Kane with inks by Joe Giella, this 2007 Showcase Presents tale delivers a tense showdown where Hal must outmaneuver his nemesis in a world designed to trap and destroy. The cover, by Gil Kane and Murphy Anderson, captures the high-stakes tension of the confrontation.

In their last encounter, Sinestro implanted a telepathic command into Hal Jordan's mind, which causes him to release Sinestro from his imprisonment. Sinestro then transports Hal to Qward for a battle, where Hal tricks him into thinking he no longer has his Green Lantern Ring and then imprisons Sinestro again.
