Green Arrow #18
In "The Return of Roy Harper, Part 1: The Black Artery," writer Benjamin Percy and artist Eleonora Carlini kick off a pivotal chapter in Roy Harper’s journey, reuniting the character with his roots on the Indian Reservation where he once found shelter and purpose. Flashbacks reveal the early bond between a young Roy and Green Arrow, while the present-day Roy—now Arsenal—returns to confront a new threat: an oil pipeline endangering his people’s land, and a brother who holds him responsible for a past loss. The issue’s striking cover by Otto Schmidt captures Roy’s return in stark, haunting detail.

In flashback, we are shown how Ollie first took in young Roy, a homeless kid who had become a thief to survive. Roy soon learned that Ollie was Green Arrow and took on the identity of his sidekick Speedy. In the present, an older Roy, now known as Arsenal, returns to the Indian Reservation where he grew up to help protect the reservation which is threatened by an oil pipeline construction project that will run through their land. However, Roy does not meet with a warm reception from his Native American "brother", who blames Roy for the death of their "father".
