“... Just Fade Away”

September 1994 marks a milestone as G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero #152 doubles as a proud 30th Anniversary salute to G.I. Joe (1964–1994), and the cover by Phil Gosier and Scott Koblish captures that celebratory spirit beautifully. A rugged, battle-ready soldier strides forward through smoke and debris, bayoneted rifle in hand and the American flag unfurling dramatically behind him, while fellow soldiers hold their ground in the background. Billed as a special issue presenting the original adventure of the very first G.I. Joe, this is a fitting tribute from the creative team of Larry Hama, Gosier, and Koblish to thirty years of Real American Heroes.

Ace is taking G.I. Joe to D.C. to see the current President of the U.S., and Ace asks him if this is his first time flying in a supersonic fighter, and Joe says the last time he flew to D.C. was in 1963. Ace then asks why he was flown from Vietnam to D.C. Joe then tells him that he can't respond because it's classified. The story then goes into Joe's origin and how he was recruited to be the first true G.I. Joe by then-president JFK and ends with them landing in D.C. as he asks Ace to give him a minute to recoup his bearings as they had just flown over Arlington National Cemetery.
