Elderly Lord Crawford of Scotland sends Quentin Durward to Burgundy to bring back young Isabelle, Countess of Macroy, for an arranged marriage. Lady Isabelle flees and Durward pursues her. Along the way he makes an enemy of William De la Marck, a renegade count who controls the woods. Betrayed by King Louis, Durward and Lady Isabella flee De la Marck. Durward and De la Marck have a final showdown in the burning tower of a church.
