“Scaring a Burglar”

Francis the Famous Talking Mule is in fine form on this 1954 Dell issue, rolling confidently on four roller skates while a hapless blond fellow tumbles to the ground on his own pair — clearly outclassed by the four-legged expert. Francis's speech bubble says it all: "You poor dumb two-footed man!" — a perfectly delivered put-down that sets the comic, lighthearted tone Don Gunn captures so well in both line and ink. If you enjoy good-natured humor with a wisecracking animal firmly in charge, this ten-cent gem delivers exactly that.
