☆ Be the first to review + Add to your collection — Join freeThis 1953 Dell issue puts young Little Beaver front and center in an action-packed riverside scene, straining with all his might on a rope while a second figure struggles in the churning water behind him — a snake-like shape breaking the surface adding an extra note of danger. With a quiver of arrows at his back and sheer determination on his face, the cover captures the scrappy resourcefulness that made this young hero a favorite in mid-century Western comics. At a dime a copy, it's a vivid snapshot of Dell's lively adventure storytelling for younger readers.

Laughing Doe wants to marry Bright Knife, but he can only offer ten ponies for her; and Bad Wolf offers twenty ponies. Little Beaver proposes a horse race between Bright Knife and Bad Wolf, with the winner to win ten ponies and the hand of Laughing Doe. Bright Knife has the fastest horse, but Bad Wolf helps some white men steal Bright Wolf's horse. While rescuing Bright Knife's horse, it goes lame, so Little Beaver has to ride his horse Papoose against Bad Wolf in the race.
