“Annie Oakley and the Death Brand”

In "Annie Oakley and the Death Brand," the sharpshooting Annie and her brother Tagg set off from their carnival life to claim an inherited ranch near the lawless town of Gunsight, unaware that gold has been found there. When a hired thug tries to gather intel, he's outsmarted by a prank photo from a store contest, and soon after, Annie proves her grit by repelling an Indian attack and stepping in as a Pony Express rider when the original is injured. Art by Mike Arens, with writing by Philip Evans, this 1952 Dell Four Color comic blends frontier adventure with a touch of humor, all rendered in crisp, dynamic style.

Annie is working as a sharpshooter in her uncle's traveling carnival, when she receives a telegram that she has inherited a ranch from a distant relative. It is located near Gunsight, "the toughest town west of the Pecos". She and her brother Tagg leave to settle on the ranch, not knowing that gold has been discovered there. Eli Bolton sends a thug to find out some information on Annie, but he is fooled by a gag photo for a store contest. When the stage to Gunsight is attacked by Indians, Annie drives them off, then takes over for an injured Pony Express rider.
