In "Forgotten Grubstake," young Bobby Piggot, newly orphaned, journeys to Sulphur City in the Yukon with Sgt. Preston to live with his aunt and uncle. When two desperate prospectors trick Bobby into leaving the trading post, he soon finds himself in danger—fleeing after realizing their true intentions, and shot in the process. The shot draws Sgt. Preston to the scene, setting the stage for a tense confrontation.

In "Reward for Shiloh," Ben Yates holds Jed Norris's daughter hostage to force him into selling a gold mine for a fraction of its true worth—$5,000 instead of $75,000. Unbeknownst to Yates, Sgt. Preston is nearby, escorting the very man who's willing to pay the mine’s full value.

In "Snowslide," Sgt. Preston is rescued from a snowslide by a mysterious figure known only as Yukon King, who brings him to the cabin of an outlaw named Buck Croyden. Unaware of Croyden’s true nature, Preston recovers under his care—only to later be sent on a mission to track down the same man, now revealed as a murderer and key figure in a gold bullion theft.
