“The Echo Valley”

From Dell's 1952 run of Walt Disney's Donald Duck comes this delightful entry subtitled "in Malayalaya," with a cover by Carl Barks that crackles with motion and charm. Donald rides an enormous bale of raw rubber like a magic carpet through the air, his expression a perfect mix of alarm and determination, while Huey, Dewey, and Louie each surf their own smaller bundles alongside him — silhouettes of pursuing figures visible on the hilltops below. It's a wonderfully kinetic snapshot of adventure that sets the stage for Jack Bradbury's interior tale, "The Echo Valley.
