Slick Jon the Gambler is murdered in an ambush, witnessed by Footloose, a young boy. When news of the killing hits town, the most likely suspects are Billy and Mandy, whose father was swindled by Slick Jon. Billy is arrested, and when Footloose is taken to town by King, Coroner Webb, who is part of the gang that killed Slick Jon, dismisses his testimony and threatens to send him to an orphanage. King helps Billy escape from jail and sends him to the gang's hideout to try to join up with the killers.
