“Secret Origins”

In "Secret Origins," Jason Rusch faces a day of ordinary chaos—neighbors, roommates, coworkers—before a sudden attack at S.T.A.R. Labs forces him to become Firestorm. Written by Stuart Moore and illustrated by Jamal Igle, with Rob Stull’s inks and Paul Mounts’ colors, this 2005 issue captures the raw intensity of a hero pushed to his limits. The battle with the Pionic Man leaves Firestorm battered, barely making it home before collapsing—just as the transformation begins to reverse. Cover by Matt Haley.
