FF #19
FF #19 is the debut issue of Onome, a child prodigy and daughter of one of Wakanda's most celebrated engineers, who joins the Future Foundation's student roster by the issue's final page — making this one of the few single-issue stories in Jonathan Hickman's entire FF run to introduce a character who has since crossed over into theme-park media at Disney's Avengers Campus. The issue also marks the first appearances of the Hyena Clan and their leader Aardwolf, a pair of Wakandan-adjacent antagonists who give Hickman's Future Foundation kids a self-contained adventure entirely removed from the cosmic-scale plotting that dominated the parent title. As a Wakanda-set field-trip story told from the children's point of view, it demonstrated that the FF title could function as a compelling anthology of kid-led vignettes alongside its larger political chess game, expanding the Marvel Universe's African geography with the same world-building care Hickman was simultaneously applying to Inhumans, Kree, and Inhuman sub-cultures throughout the run.

FF (2011–2012) was itself a title born from editorial circumstance: originally conceived as a stopgap replacement for the main Fantastic Four series following the apparent death of the Human Torch in issue #588, it performed well enough that editor Tom Brevoort asked Hickman to continue it as a companion book once Fantastic Four relaunched with #600. The series had been titled Future Foundation internally but was renamed FF for marketing reasons, to signal its connection to the Fantastic Four franchise for retailers. Issue #19 was penciled and inked by Gabriel Hernández Walta — a Spanish artist who would later earn wide recognition for his work on Vision (2015) — with colors by Cris Peter, lettering by Clayton Cowles, and editing by Jake Thomas, Lauren Sankovitch, and Tom Brevoort; the issue shipped with a cover date of August 2012 and was released June 27, 2012, near the end of Hickman's tenure on the FF family of titles before he departed for the Avengers line as part of Marvel NOW!.
