“Legacy”

Issue #9 of Marvel's 1997 reimagining of Fantastic Four carries the fitting title "Legacy," and the cover by Brett Booth and Tom McWeeney makes clear why — a colossal ancient statue looms over a dramatic alien cityscape while the entire team scrambles in the foreground. The Human Torch blazes across the sky trailing fire, the Thing and a red-haired woman grapple below, the Invisible Woman stands at the base of the monument's steps, and a winged figure soars in the background, all dwarfed by that monumental stone giant. It's a sweeping, wonderfully composed image that promises scale and high adventure in equal measure.
