About this Collection

This volume collects the earliest adventures of the Human Rocket, Nova (Richard Rider), from his debut in The Man Called Nova #1 through the end of his original 1970s series, plus his appearances in The Amazing Spider-Man and Fantastic Four. Presented in Marvel's black-and-white Essential format, it covers Nova's origin as a teenager granted superpowers by the dying alien Rhomann Dey and his battles against villains like the Condor and Diamondhead. The collection also includes the first appearances of the original Nova Corps and key early stories by writer Marv Wolfman and penciler John Buscema.

In "Nova," a 2006 Marvel comic written by Marv Wolfman and illustrated by Carmine Infantino with Tom Palmer, a young hero named Nova intercepts a criminal named Mike Burley—only for the suspect to slip away. When Nova is ambushed by what seem to be rogue superheroes, he learns they're S.H.I.E.L.D. Life Model Decoys sent by Nick Fury to test his resolve. Fury needs Nova's help tracking down Mike Burley, whose scientist brother is being held captive. The cover by Rich Buckler and Joe Sinnott captures the intensity of this high-stakes mission.
