Edgar Rice Burroughs' Tarzan of the Apes #159
In "King of the River," Tarzan, injured and amnesiac after raiding Opar’s gold, is duped by Werper, who steals his pouch of jewels. With the Waziri believing him dead and Jane captured by Achmet Zek, Tarzan escapes the Beast-Men of Opar, gains the allegiance of La, and sets out on a quest for his "pretty pebbles." Written by Edgar Rice Burroughs and Gaylord Du Bois, with dynamic art by Russ Manning, this 1966 adventure blends jungle peril and personal mystery in a standout entry from the series. The cover, also by Russ Manning, captures the raw intensity of Tarzan’s journey.
