“Love and Haiti [The Vampiric Verses, Part 3 of 5]”

The Vampiric Verses" rolls into its third chapter with a cover by Butch Guice that pulls no punches — a helpless Dr. Strange is snatched up by a menacing, bat-winged vampire figure whose purple-and-yellow costume and fanged helmet make for a striking silhouette against a full moon. The Sorcerer Supreme looks utterly powerless here, his blue-clad form dangling in the creature's grip while a darkened, foliage-shrouded landscape sets an appropriately eerie mood. Roy Thomas, Dann Thomas, and Jackson Guice bring their talents to this five-part supernatural saga, making issue #16 a satisfying mid-arc entry for anyone drawn to Strange's darker mystical corners.
