“In the House of the Dead”

In "In the House of the Dead," Doctor Fate is drawn into the realm of the afterlife, where Anubis demands judgment on Khalid. With Osiris absent and Thoth unwilling to record the verdict, the god of wisdom instead bestows Khalid with the staff of power—linking him to the might of ancient pharaohs and the creator god Atum. Written by Paul Levitz and brought to life by Sonny Liew’s striking art and Lee Loughridge’s evocative colors, this issue deepens the mystical stakes with a haunting journey through the underworld, all under a cover by Sonny Liew.

Anubis takes Fate to the land of the dead, but, in the absence of Osiris, Thoth refuses to record the judgment Anubis decrees for Khalid. Thoth gifts Khalid with his staff of power, which gives him the power of his pharaonic ancestors and the creator god Atum, enough power to defeat and humble Anubis.
