Detective Comics #934
Detective Comics #934 is the premiere issue of the DC Rebirth era for the title, marking the restoration of the series' original legacy numbering after five years of New 52 renumbering — a deliberate editorial act that set the stage for the eventual Detective Comics #1000. Beyond its publishing milestone, the issue reintroduced the Batman franchise as a genuine ensemble book rather than a solo vehicle, pairing Batman with Batwoman as co-leads and assembling a Bat-family roster — including Cassandra Cain (as Orphan), Tim Drake (Red Robin), Stephanie Brown (Spoiler), and the reformed villain Clayface — that had been largely absent or sidelined during the New 52 years. Writer James Tynion IV explicitly framed his mandate as rebuilding the Bat-family that the 2011 relaunch had dismantled, giving those characters renewed prominence in DC's continuity. The issue also launches the 'Rise of the Batmen' storyline and introduces the Colony, the para-military antagonist force whose leader is eventually revealed to be Jacob Kane, Batwoman's own father.

In February 2016, DC announced that as part of the Rebirth initiative, Detective Comics would abandon its New 52 Vol. 2 numbering and resume from the combined count of the original 1937 run (881 issues) and the 52 New 52 issues, arriving at #934. DC tapped James Tynion IV — who had been writing backup features in Detective Comics during the New 52 era under writers John Layman and later Brian Buccellato — to take over as sole writer, his first ongoing Detective Comics credit as lead writer. Penciller Eddy Barrows handled the launch issue, with Eber Ferreira on inks and Adriano Lucas on colors; Álvaro Martínez alternated as the series' second penciller beginning with the next arc. The series was published on a twice-monthly schedule from the outset, reflecting DC's broader Rebirth publishing strategy.
