Detective Comics #37
Part one of "Anarky" arrives in this 2015 New 52 issue, and Francis Manapul's cover sets the tension beautifully — a composed, arms-crossed Batman looms over Gotham's skyline in cool blues while a second, more vulnerable figure is rendered in warm yellows and reds below, the word "ORDER" blazing behind them in stark contrast. The design is striking in its simplicity, splitting the image between authority and unease with the Anarky symbol cutting right through the middle. Manapul and Buccellato bring their distinctive visual sensibility to Detective Comics here, and this cover alone makes a strong case for why their run was something special.
