“The Joker's Millions!”

In "The Joker's Millions!", the Clown Prince of Crime takes a surprising turn—after inheriting a fortune from a deceased gangster rival, he briefly abandons his criminal ways for a life of luxury. But when he discovers the money is mostly counterfeit, he’s forced back into crime, only to commit mundane thefts in a desperate bid to maintain his cover. Written by David Vern and illustrated by Dick Sprang, with inks by Charles Paris, this 1952 tale sees the Joker outsmarting himself as clues still lead right to him—despite his careful efforts to stay anonymous. The cover, by Win Mortimer, captures the twist with a perfectly deadpan, smirking Joker in a tuxedo, perfectly at odds with the chaos he’s trying to avoid.
