In "The Armies of the Slain," the Defenders face a twisted ordeal when some are captured by Pluto—only to be rescued by their comrades, whose arrival sets off a chain of deception and dread. As Nighthawk and Hellcat confront a false Valkyrie whose presence unravels a spell, the real Valkyrie begins to break free, but before they can strike back, Pluto opens a gateway to Hades on Earth.
