En enquêtant sur des activités criminelles d'une entreprise de transport, Batman reconnaît Joe Chill, l'homme qui a tué Thomas et Martha Wayne des années auparavant. Batman essaie de trouver des preuves des opérations illégales de Chill, mais quand il échoue, il révèle son identité à Chill et lui dit qu'il le surveillera et qu'il finira par l'attraper. Paniqué, Chill s'enfuit vers son gang, mais quand ils découvrent que Chill est responsable de l'existence de Batman, ils lui tirent dessus, et ce n'est qu'après qu'ils se rendent compte qu'ils auraient dû demander à Chill le vrai nom de Batman.
