Daredevil #117
A cemetery shrouded in smoky twilight sets the stage for one of the most tension-charged face-to-face moments you'll find on a 2009 Marvel cover: Daredevil, in full red costume, clasps hands with the imposing, bald-headed Kingpin amid the gravestones — an image that radiates uneasy alliance and barely contained menace. The "Return of the King" banner crowning the cover makes clear this is Part Two of a major story arc, written by Ed Brubaker with art by Michael Lark, inked by Stefano Gaudiano, and colored by Matt Hollingsworth. Marko Djurdjević's cover painting renders the scene with a moody, painterly atmosphere that perfectly captures the moral grey zone both men inhabit.
