Daredevil #111
Daredevil #111 is the first appearance of Kenuichio Harada, the Silver Samurai — a mutant Japanese swordsman who would go on to become one of Marvel's most recognizable antagonists, most memorably as a recurring nemesis of Wolverine and a central figure in the X-Men's Japan mythology. The issue planted the seed for decades of stories tying Harada to Clan Yashida, Mariko, and Wolverine's own history, and his debut here as a hired enforcer for the Black Spectre organization gave writer Steve Gerber room to sketch a genuinely complex villain whose motivations (fulfilling a family obligation) set him apart from straightforward evil. Coming during a run that also juggled Mandrill, Nekra, Shanna, and a mind-controlled Black Widow, this issue is a snapshot of the densely cross-pollinated Bronze Age Marvel storytelling that connected previously siloed corner characters into a shared urban thriller.
In "Sword of the Samurai!", Daredevil faces a new threat as the Silver Samurai—now allied with the Black Spectre—overpowers him and Shanna, taking her captive. With Shanna in danger and the enemy's airship looming, Daredevil pushes forward, determined to strike at Mandrill's stronghold. Written by Steve Gerber and illustrated by Bob Brown, with inks by Jim Mooney and colors by L. Lessmann, this 1974 issue features a striking cover by Ron Wilson and Frank Giacoia.

The issue was written by Steve Gerber and pencilled by Bob Brown, with inks by Jim Mooney on the interior story and a cover by Ron Wilson inked by Frank Giacoia — though the cover pencil credit has a documented correction history: the Grand Comics Database originally credited Bob Brown, with the corrected attribution to Ron Wilson later confirmed by the artist and noted on the GCD Error List. Roy Thomas served as editor, and the issue was lettered by Tom Orzechowski (interior) and Gaspar Saladino (cover). It was published with a July 1974 cover date and was part of Gerber's longer multi-issue Black Spectre arc that also drew characters from the cancelled Shanna the She-Devil solo series into Daredevil's world.
