“Worlds in Limbo”

Part five of DC's ambitious 12-part maxi-series makes its scope unmistakable: George Pérez's cover fills every inch of space with a vast mosaic of DC heroes and villains rendered in cool blue tones, their faces pressing in from all directions as if the multiverse itself is crowded to bursting. At the center, two overlapping worlds — cracked and fragile — frame a mysterious woman's face caught between them, a haunting visual that perfectly captures the story's title, "Worlds in Limbo." Pérez's astonishing command of crowd composition alone makes this one of the most visually striking installments of this landmark 1985 series.

Both Earths 1 and 2 have been consigned to a limbo created from the Monitor's last available energies before he died (as seen in issue 4). His foe wonders why he hasn't received those worlds' energies into himself like he did all the others that he's destroyed, but no matter - he still has 3 more worlds to destroy, and reveals himself to a captured Flash [Barry Allen] (captured in issue 3 by the Anti-Monitor). To be continued...
