“Where Broods the Demon!”

In "Where Broods the Demon!", Thongor faces his greatest trial yet when he's captured and imprisoned by the malevolent Demon of Zangabal. With the help of fellow captive Ald Thurmis, he escapes the dungeon and must wield the legendary Shield of Cathloda to confront the ancient evil. Written by George Alec Effinger and illustrated by Val Mayerik, with inks by Vince Colletta and colors by Glynis Wein, this 1973 Marvel adventure blends sword-and-sorcery grit with cosmic mystery. The cover, penciled and inked by John Romita, captures the dread of the Demon’s domain.
