“Red Swords, Black Wings!”

"Red Swords, Black Wings!" sees a Scottish fishing village celebrate the sudden appearance of a mysterious lighthouse—only for their school teacher to question its origins and dismantle it, fearing the gift is too good to be true. Written by Stan Lee and illustrated by Steve Ditko, the story unfolds with quiet dread as the villagers rebuild, unaware the first lighthouse was a signal for an alien invasion, halted by one person’s doubt. The cover by John Romita and Ernie Chan captures the eerie beauty of the island’s new, fragile peace.

A small Scottish fishing village is delighted when a much needed lighthouse appears from nowhere, but their school teacher feels it is wrong to take something unearned and destroys it. They build a new lighthouse, and no one will ever know that the first was a beacon for an alien invasion, unwittingly stopped by the teacher.
