Cerebus #64 arrives in July 1984 with one of the series' more quietly unsettling covers — two silhouetted figures seen from behind, pressed against or separated by a grid of bars, the phrase "Never Pray for Change" rendered in rough, handwritten lettering across the image. The restrained blue palette and stark composition give the whole thing a somber, almost meditative weight that feels a world away from typical fantasy-adventure fare. Dave Sim's cover art, inked by his own hand, makes a strong case for Aardvark-Vanaheim's commitment to treating readers as adults.
