This installment of Dave Sim and Gerhard's long-running epic arrives with a hauntingly quiet cover — Gerhard's photorealistic rendering of a stone tower rising beside a great spreading tree, rows of bare vineyard trellises stretching across the foreground beneath a pale, overcast sky. The mood is contemplative and almost melancholy, perfectly suited to the "Going Home" arc's title. It's a striking departure from superhero bombast, and a reminder of how ambitious and visually adventurous Cerebus was in 1998.
