“Insights Part 1”

Part of the long-running "Mothers & Daughters" arc, Cerebus #179 opens the "Insights" chapter with a cover design that's quietly striking — a richly patterned gold-and-indigo geometric field frames a small inset image of an ornate throne bathed in window light, its occupant a small, shadowy figure whose back is turned to the viewer. Dave Sim and Gerhard bring their usual meticulous craft to both the intricate tilework backdrop and the moody interior scene nested within it. It's a deliberately contemplative composition that rewards a second look.
