“Too Late for Tears Part 1”
About this Collection

This volume collects issues #13-18 of the 2010 Cable series, following Cable and Hope Summers as they remain stranded in the future after the events of Second Coming. The story focuses on their struggle to survive in a hostile timeline while protecting Hope from those who seek to control or eliminate her, with Nathan Summers facing the consequences of his time-displaced mission.

In "Too Late for Tears Part 1," Cable battles both a spreading techno-organic virus and the chaos of Hope’s sudden disappearance after she leaps back in time without him. With Bishop’s arrival only escalating the crisis, Cable is left scrambling while Hope, now nine and alone, finds an unexpected ally in a young boy named Emil—whose father has ties to Stryfe and a secret alliance with Bishop. Written by Duane Swierczynski and illustrated with sharp precision by Paul Gulacy, this pivotal issue blends emotional intensity with high-stakes time travel, all wrapped in a striking cover by Dave Wilkins.

Angry with Cable, Hope lashes out and shunts herself back in time two years--without Cable. Without his charge and unable to leap backwards in time, Cable tries to formulate a plan while wrestling with the techno organic virus which is raging out of control. Bishop doesn't help things by showing up and attacking Cable. Finding Hope gone, Bishop leaves Cable and leaps back to find her. Nine years old and alone, Hope enters one of Stryfe's cities and befriends a young boy named Emil. But Emil's father used to work for Stryfe and has now allied himself with someone else--Bishop.
