Cable #17
In "Too Late for Tears Conclusion," Cable finally tracks down Hope in the time stream, but instead of leaping forward to safety, he takes a dangerous gamble—posing as Stryfe to steal a ship and flee with her. Trapped between duty and emotion, Hope must be convinced to leave behind Emil, the only family she’s known in two years of isolation. Written by Duane Swierczynski and illustrated with sharp precision by Paul Gulacy, with colors by Thomas Mason and letters by VC's Joe Caramagna, this pivotal issue delivers a tense, character-driven climax. The cover, by Dave Wilkins, captures the moment’s urgency in stark, evocative detail.

With the help of her young friend Emil, Hope is able to survive alone for two years while Bishop continues to search for her. Cable spends the same two years pulling himself together as his techno organic virus is out of control. He finally catches up with Hope in the time stream. Rather than jump forward in time again, Cable impersonates Stryfe and steals a space ship to get himself and Hope off planet and out of the reach of Bishop's clutches. Hope, however, has to be forced to go as she doesn't want to leave her young love, Emil, behind.
