In "Father Can't Please Maggie," Father attempts to stay home and improve himself to please his wife Maggie, but she insists he go out instead. In "Father's Courage Oozes Out," Father forgets about Dinty Moore's chowder party and considers sneaking out, but ultimately asks Maggie for permission to go. In "Father Finds a Bargain," Father purchases a fashionable hat for fifty-five dollars, claiming it was a bargain, only to learn from Maggie that the hat belonged to Father and cost that much in labor to restore.
