“Putting On the Dog”

A cheerful holiday party sets the scene on Dan DeCarlo's cover, where Archie stands arm-in-arm with Betty and Veronica — dressed to the nines — while a crowd of Riverdale teens celebrates behind them. Archie's speech bubble delivers a classic punchline, telling Betty all he really wants for Christmas is "your two front teeth," which says everything you need to know about his lovable goofiness. At 256 pages, this 1991 digest is a generous helping of Betty and Veronica fun, with a Christmas tree in the corner adding just the right festive touch.

It's the holiday season, and Archie is working at Uriah Scourge's jewelry store to earn some extra money. Archie's boss bears a striking resemblance to Mr. Scrooge from A Christmas Carol. He won't let Archie have time off, and is a skinflint - even donning an old ratty sweater so he can get a free meal at the local rescue mission. When he returns, he chases carolers away from his store. As Archie and his boss are closing up shop for the night, an un-named man walks into the store, flashes a gun and demands money.
