Batman / Shadow #5

The penultimate chapter of this DC/Dynamite co-production finds Batman and the Shadow fighting back-to-back against a swirling tide of skeletal and spectral assailants, rendered in Riley Rossmo's wonderfully kinetic, fragmented style. The Shadow levels a pistol while Batman raises his fists, the two figures anchoring a chaotic composition that spirals upward into ghostly, disembodied hands and grinning skulls. With Scott Snyder and Steve Orlando on script and Ivan Plascencia's vivid crimson-and-white palette amplifying the supernatural dread, issue #5 feels like a genuine meeting of pulp legend and superhero mythology.
