From December 1975, Batman #270 presents a genuinely unsettling cover image: the Dark Knight is surrounded and cornered by a trio of menacing figures, each clutching a severed, flaming head — an eerie, otherworldly threat that more than earns the story's title, "The Menace of the Fiery Heads!" Ernie Chan's cover artwork frames Batman in a tight, dramatic circle of danger, the cool blues and purples of the scene contrasting vividly with the supernatural fire erupting from those grotesque trophies. Writer David V. Reed and artist Ernie Chua deliver what promises to be one of the more macabre mid-70s Batman adventures DC had to offer.
