The story follows the Avengers and X-Men as they clash over the fate of the mutant child Luna, the daughter of Quicksilver and Crystal, while dealing with the threat of the High Evolutionary and his New Men. It's a key moment in the aftermath of the 'Age of Apocalypse' storyline, focusing on family loyalties and the growing tensions between mutantkind and humanity.
In "Bloodties Part One: Family Legacy," the Avengers are ordered to stand aside as Genosha descends into civil war between humans and mutates—until they learn that Fabian Cortez has kidnapped Crystal's daughter, Luna. With the U.N. forbidding intervention, the team chooses to act, while Professor X secretly directs the X-Men to rendezvous with the official delegation upon their arrival. Written by Bob Harras and illustrated by Steve Epting, with inks by Tom Palmer and colors by Tom Palmer, the issue sets a tense stage for a conflict where loyalty, legacy, and duty collide. Klaus Janson's cover captures the storm brewing beneath the surface.
In "Bloodties Part One: Family Legacy," the Avengers face a moral crossroads when Genosha erupts into war between humans and mutates, and the U.N. orders them to stand aside. When Fabian Cortez kidnaps Crystal’s daughter Luna, the team defies orders, setting off a chain of events that pulls in both the Avengers and the X-Men. As Cortez broadcasts his anti-human manifesto to the world, Professor X sends a delegation to Genosha—while secretly directing the X-Men to follow, setting the stage for a confrontation that will test loyalty, legacy, and the meaning of family.
In "Bloodties Part 2: Civil Disobedience!" from Avengers / X-Men: Bloodties #, the Avengers storm Genosha against U.N. orders, breaking through SHIELD to rescue Luna from Cortez—just as the X-Men close in on the same mission.
In "Bloodties Part III," Hawkeye and a group of Avengers stand before a U.N. delegation, defending their unauthorized mission to Genosha, while the rest of the team grapples with the island’s grim reality—War Machine clashes with Exodus in the skies, and USAgent, Beast, and Xavier uncover a hidden mutate concentration camp. As the X-Men face off against the Unforgiven, the lines between justice and vengeance blur in the wake of a mission that defied orders.
In the explosive finale of *Avengers / X-Men: Bloodties*, Exodus seizes control of Genosha, forcing a brutal choice: mutants must kill humans or face annihilation as he shrinks his impenetrable barrier. With Cortez dead and Luna in his grasp, the Avengers and X-Men join forces in a desperate bid to stop Exodus, rescue Luna, and prevent Genosha from becoming a battleground of blood and betrayal.
