Avengers Next #4
The penultimate chapter of this 2007 limited series puts the next generation of Earth's Mightiest Heroes in genuine jeopardy — the cover by Mike Wieringo (inked by Sean Parsons) shows three young heroes trapped inside glowing containment cylinders while an unseen hand manipulates a control device in the foreground, their fates literally in someone else's grip. It's a tense, visually sharp image that captures the high stakes Tom DeFalco and Ron Lim have been building across the series. With one issue left to go, "Cry, My Beloved Homeworld" promises the kind of corner-painted-into drama that keeps you reaching for the next issue.
