About this Collection

This 2015 collection reprints the acclaimed Astro City story arc in which the mysterious Confessor takes on a young sidekick named Altar Boy, exploring the dark secrets behind the city's most enigmatic hero. Written by Kurt Busiek with art by Brent Anderson, the narrative delves into themes of faith, identity, and the cost of heroism as the Confessor's past and true nature are gradually revealed. The volume also includes the framing story 'The Nearness of You,' tying into the larger Astro City tapestry.

In "New Kid in Town," newcomer Brian Kinney makes his mark in Astro City after landing a job at the rough-and-tumble bar Bruiser's. When a sudden attack at the upscale Butler's puts him in the spotlight, Brian’s quick thinking earns him more than just a new job—it catches the eye of the Confessor. Written by Kurt Busiek and illustrated by Brent Eric Anderson, with inks by Will Blyberg, colors by Alex Sinclair, and letters by John Roshell of Comicraft, this issue features a striking cover by Alex Ross.

Brian Kinney arrives in Astro City and finds a job at Bruiser's, a bar "costumes" frequent. The owner, seeing something more in Brian, helps him get a job at a classier place, Butler's. When Glue-Gun crashes through the skylight there and tries to make Brian a hostage, Brian knocks him out, drawing the ire of his fellow busboys, but also the attention of the Confessor.
