The cover of this September–October 1957 issue says it all: Archie stands grinning outside the principal's office, cheerfully confessing to a bespectacled faculty member that he signed up for Latin simply because "Veronica is taking it!" — while Veronica herself, in her signature red top, strolls through the doorway completely unaware. It's a perfectly timed slice of Riverdale social maneuvering that captures everything endearing about Archie's eternal pursuit. For a dime, readers in 1957 were getting some of the most charming, warmly comedic storytelling in teen comics.
