“Two For One”

This July–August 1957 issue of Archie captures a perfectly awkward living-room moment: Archie holds Veronica's hands with hearts floating in the air between them, while her exasperated father looks on from the staircase, deadpanning that he'd like to know "whether Archie is leaving or whether I'm throwing him out!" A record player spins in the corner, setting a romantic mood that Veronica's dad clearly isn't feeling. It's a charming ten-cent slice of Riverdale comedy that showcases exactly why this series won readers over — warm, funny, and just a little delightfully chaotic.

Melvin, the new kid, gets Jughead to introduce him to Veronica. He asks her for a date and she accepts. Later she realizes that she'll need to stay away from Archie when she goes on her date with Melvin, so she goes to the museum, thinking Archie would never go there. Meanwhile Archie asks Jughead where Veronica is, and he tells him the museum, figuring Veronica would never go there.
