Arak / Son of Thunder #36
In "The Sword of Nether-Eden," Arak, still reeling from a clash with serpent-men, is sent to locate the legendary blade of the arch-angel Gabriel deep within Damaskos. With his shamanic gifts guiding him, he uncovers the weapon—only to face a monstrous half-serpent foe, which he defeats with the sword’s power. But victory is short-lived: a vision from the Serpent-Lord reveals a shocking betrayal, as Alsind’s own mother aids in the abduction of Sharizad and Alsind. Now, Arak stands at a crossroads—will he surrender the sword to save his friends, or risk everything to keep it? Written by Roy and Dann Thomas, with dynamic art by Ron Randall and inks by Rick Magyar, this issue delivers a tense, mythic clash of fate and loyalty, all framed by Randall’s striking cover.

After repelling an attack by serpent-men, Arak is charged with finding the sword of the arch-angel Gabriel, hidden somewhere in Damaskos. Arak's shaman abilities enable him to find the blade just in time to be attacked by a half-man, half-serpent creature. Arak kills the beast with the sword, but the Serpent-Lord appears in a vision and manages to abduct Sharizad and Alsind with the help of a traitor, Alsind's own mother. The stage is set: does Arak give the sword to his eternal enemy to save the lives of his friends?
