Arak / Son of Thunder #35
In "The Sword in the Sky," Arak and his companions reach the city of Damaskos, where they are welcomed into the palace of Abu Jahl, uncle to the mysterious Alsind. As Arak recounts their latest trials, the gathering is thrown into chaos when Josephus, the Wandering Jew he once met in Rome, bursts in with a dire warning—only to be struck down by a spear. With assassins in the form of snake-men emerging from the shadows, Arak must face an enemy old and terrible, one whose reach extends even to the heart of a foreign court. Written by Roy and Dann Thomas, with dynamic art by Ron Randall and inks by Tony DeZuniga, this issue delivers a tense, mythic clash with a haunting cover by Randall.

Arak and company make their way to the city of Damaskos, where they (eventually) gain entrance to Abu Jahl's (Alsind's uncle) palace. While regaling Abu Jahl with stories of their recent adventures, the gathered people find themselves confronted by Josephus, the Wandering Jew that Arak met in Rome. Josephus manages to shout out a few ill tidings for Arak before getting skewered by a spear thrown by an assassin. More assassins attack Abu Jahl and his guests, but are outmatched and killed. When the assassins are unmasked, they are revealed to be snake-men, servants of Arak's eternal enemy.
